In the seventh year of its "Initiative for World and First Premieres," the Merano Festival presents the world premiere of its festival version of the award-winning play "Bread." In this stirring piece by a contemporary playwright, the struggle of the mountain people for their daily bread becomes a fight for survival.

Visitors can expect an exciting, authentic world premiere in the style of a Greek drama with a chorus.

CONTENTS

The play "Bread" deals with the migration of mountain populations, a problem not only in South Tyrol but in many countries around the world. It depicts the struggle for survival through the example of a married couple who discover that their bread is stolen every day. This gripping drama draws on an ancient motif from Greek drama, in which someone sets out to restore lost order and, in doing so, reveals himself as the perpetrator.
